PHILOSOPHY
OUR BEGINNINGS
Panacea was originally founded and has been serving the local community since 1994 when Dr. Patrick O’Neill and his wife Mary moved their family to Alabama from Canada in order to provide top quality health care for the residents of Madison/Huntsville and the surrounding area. His career was defined and guided by providing care by which he would often say were based on three principles:
Availability – established patients should never wait more than same day or within 24 hours for an acute appointment
Affability – Our office operates by and holds all accountable to a code of conduct and mutual agreement with patients
Ability – We are an all physician clinic, patients can expect to see an actual doctor in charge of their healthcare at each and every appointment
It would be hard to imagine anyone disagreeing with his accomplishments on the above. He would retire in 2017 after serving a multitude of years and family generations in Madison.
SINCE
His dedication and care with which he treated his patients was the backbone of not only a successful medical practice but also an example to his five children, all of whom pursued careers in medicine. His three sons were entrusted to take over the clinic, its patients and future since his retirement in 2017. Specifically, two of his sons followed his footsteps as primary care physicians and are now responsible for the health care and medical needs of Panacea’s patients:
DR. SHANE O'NEILL
- Born in Canada (London, Ontario; Eldest son of Dr. Patrick O'Neill
- Obtained a Bachelor of Science at the University of Calgary; Graduated from University of South Alabama Medical School (Mobile, AL) ; Attended residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital Residency (St. Louis, MO); Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
- Married to Charity O'Neill and devoted father of their eight children; he is also an avid athletic enthusiast, former university hockey player, youth coach, and marathon runner
- Professional distinctions include: NCQA Diabetes Recognized Physician; Blue Cross Blue Shield Primary Care Select Physician
DR. KEALAN O'NEILL
- Born in Canada (London, Ontario) and grew up in Huntsville, AL; Youngest son of Dr. Patrick O’Neill
- Obtained both Bachelor and Master of Science from the University of South Alabama (Mobile, AL) ; Graduated from Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (Dothan, AL); Attended residency at Oklahoma State University Medical School (Tulsa, OK) ; Board Certified in Osteopathic Family Medicine
- Married to Christa O’Neill and devoted to his three children; he is also an avid athletic enthusiast, cyclist, camper, and golfer
- Professional distinctions include: NCQA Diabetes Recognized Physician; Blue Cross Blue Shield Primary Care Select Physician
OUR MISSION
The doctors of our clinic and the O’Neill’s in their entirety plan on serving the Madison/Huntsville and surrounding area with all of your health care needs for many more years to come. This will be achieved by the practice of their medical expertise, knowledge, and skills. It will also be considerably aided by the history of this clinic and our belief in the family unit; we believe we are more than capable of servicing all of your and your family’s needs as a primary care clinic as a result.
